MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (BP) – The State Convention of Baptists in Indiana is receiving resumes for its next executive director, SBCI Board Chair Tami Hubler told Baptist Press. A recommendation portal is now open at the convention’s website.
“It’s really about serving our network of churches,” she said in written comments.
“The role keeps us focused on our mission – exalting Jesus, encouraging pastors, and equipping churches. It’s leadership, but it’s also deeply pastoral,” said Hubler.
The role is open after Ryan Strother left in August to take a position with the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio.
More than 450 churches are members of the SCBI, according to the convention’s website.
Hubler says the man they’re hoping to find will affirm the Baptist Faith & Message 2000 and already be a member of a Southern Baptist church. She says the candidate will “need to live in Indiana and work from our Martinsville offices to stay connected to our churches.”
Other key qualifications listed at the portal are:
- A clear calling to denominational leadership
- Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Senior Pastor, preferably within one congregation
- Leadership experience in state convention associations or convention-level ministries preferred
- Strong relational, financial and administrative skills
- A heart for pastors and local church health
- The ability to build trust, cast vision and cultivate cooperation
Hubler emphasized they are looking for “a man with a clear calling to denominational leadership and a love for local churches and their pastors.”
Primary responsibilities for the position will be:
- Executive leadership and administration
- Strategic ministry oversight
- Financial stewardship
- Relationship building
- Representation and partnerships
- Personnel and team development
The job description calls for the director to be a “Christ-centered, servant leader”.
Those interested should “submit an online form with a resume, headshot, statement of faith, references, and social media links. Finalists will complete a background check,” she told BP.
She says the portal will stay open until they believe they have found God’s candidate for The Hoosier State.
“Our prayer is simple: that God provides a leader with both a pastor’s heart and a vision for cooperation – someone who will help churches across Indiana take the next faithful steps together to spread the Gospel.”
