The theme of joy, in fact, is all through the Old Testament book, but "you have to get to the pit to get there," said Harper, a popular speaker and author of "Job: An Unlikely Story of Joy" and "The Sacrament of Happy." Harper, who spoke at the gathering in Dallas at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, also is mom to Melissa (Missy) Price Harper, whom she adopted from Haiti in 2014.

DALLAS (BP) -- Sherri Pomeroy never expected for 26 people in her church family to enter heaven together when she and her husband Frank Pomeroy agreed to serve at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs 17 years ago. But on Nov. 5 of last year, in one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history, a gunman took the lives of 26 worshipers, including the Pomeroys' 14-year-old daughter Annabelle. Another 20 church members were injured in the attack.

BOWIE, Md. (BP) -- When Amberle Brown was a child, she wanted to be a martyr for Jesus, or at the least, a missionary to an unreached people group. She never imagined she would one day become part of one.
