NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Move over Dr. Spock; here comes “ParentLife’s Newborn Edition.”
The September 1997 edition of ParentLife magazine will be geared to parents of newborns or soon-to-be parents — and churches wishing to minister to them.
The issue will include a special eight-page insert filled with items of encouragement, articles of advice and useful childhood developmental information, said Ellen Oldacre, editor of “ParentLife,” which is produced by the Baptist Sunday School Board’s discipleship and family development division.
“The arrival of a new baby is a special time for families, and parents of newborns need encouragement and advice they can trust,” Oldacre said. “The September issue of ParentLife is a special undated newborn edition that includes 50 pages of the information the magazine offers in every issue, plus the insert written especially for parents of newborns.”
She said the newborn insert contains articles on:
— fun things to do with babies.
— guilt-free time-savers.
— making memories.
— family relationships when a newborn comes home.
— knowing when to call a doctor and what to say.
Also included in the insert are a baby-sitter checklist, an immunization chart, a safety checklist and a resource list which includes the names of books, videos and other media containing helpful information for parents of newborns.
Churches can use the “ParentLife Newborn Edition” as outreach tools in a number of ways, Oldacre said.
“They can place copies in pediatricians’ offices, hospital waiting rooms and day-care centers, and they can send a copy with congratulations to new parents in the community, church, school or child-care center,” she said.
Churches might also consider acquiring additional copies of the September ParentLife to give to parents for baby dedications, to give to prospective members with new babies, to start a hospital ministry or to use with a church’s First Touch (formerly Cradle Roll) ministry, Oldacre said.
The newborn issue, which will be released annually with updated information, can be ordered by churches, schools, ministries or individuals any time during the year by calling the board’s customer service line, 1-800-458-2772 or e-mail, [email protected].
