Baptist Press returns to the Super Bowl

TAMPA, Fla. (BP)–Baptist Press again will be in the mix when NFL fans converge on the Super Bowl’s host city and local Christians gear up for outreach.

Covering the Super Bowl XLIII matchup between the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers in Tampa, Fla., will be Baptist Press sports correspondent Art Stricklin of Dallas; Joni Hannigan, managing editor of the Florida Baptist Witness newspaper; and Bob Carey, chairman of the department of communication studies at Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina and president of the National Press Photographers Association.

Baptist Press coverage begins today with a question-and-answer article by Stricklin featuring NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The Q&A can be seen at www.bpnews.net and www.bpsports.net.

BP coverage will resume Monday, Jan. 26.

Baptist Press stories during the week will include players and coaches on the Cardinals and Steelers known for their Christian witness; the annual Super Bowl Gospel Celebration; and the annual Super Bowl Breakfast when the recipient of this year’s Bart Starr Award is recognized for exemplary character and leadership in the home, on the field and in the community.

From a ministry standpoint, BP coverage will include Super Bowl rallies hosted by three Tampa-area Baptist churches featuring music, testimonies by athletes and messages by Fred Luter Jr., senior pastor of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans.
