‘Extreme adventure’ marriage retreats slated at LifeWay conference centers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Marriage Impact 2003 — an “extreme adventure” marriage conference combining outdoor adventures with Bible study and worship — will be offered at LifeWay conference centers near Santa Fe, N.M., and Asheville, N.C., May 23-25.

“Marriage Impact is designed to help couples get out of the rut of daily living by combining high adventure with meaningful worship,” said Brian Daniel, national sales and event planner for LifeWay Conference Centers.

“In addition to enjoying nationally known Christian speakers and musicians, couples will have opportunities to spend time together enjoying outdoor activities that include rock climbing, hiking, rafting, rappelling, tennis, volleyball and miniature golf.”

Former actress Lisa Whelchel-Cauble, best known for her role as Blair on NBC’s sitcom “Facts of Life,” and her husband, Steve, an associate pastor in California, will lead the Bible study portion of Marriage Impact at Glorieta. Whelchel, author of several books, including “Creative Correction: Extraordinary Ideas for Everyday Discipline,” traded in Hollywood fame to homeschool her three young children. In addition to her acting accolades, she received a Grammy nomination for her solo album, “All Because of You.”

“In today’s fast-paced, stress-filled world, it’s more important than ever that husbands and wives set aside time to strengthen their relationships with each other and with Jesus Christ,” Whelchel said. “Marriage Impact is designed to help couples enjoy God’s creation together and gain valuable biblical insights that will have a positive effect on their marriages.”

Clay Crosse, twice nominated for Dove Awards as male vocalist of the year after being named 1995’s new artist of the year, will lead praise and worship. During his eight-year musical career, Crosse has recorded eight No. 1 singles, including “I Surrender All,” “My Place Is With You” and “I Will Follow Christ.”

At Ridgecrest, nationally known husband-and-wife speakers Jeff and Joy Earle will combine humor, music, drama and biblical teaching to help couples strengthen and enrich their marriages.

Steve Wiggins, former lead singer of Grammy Award-nominated Big Tent Revival and a Dove Award winner, will serve as praise and worship leader. During the peak of his career, this husband and father of three quit his job with Big Tent Revival to spend more time at home with his family and church. At the time, he was performing before more than 250,000 people each year. The band also was receiving critical recognition, garnering five Grammy Award nominations and creating hit songs like “Two Sets of Joneses,” “What Would Jesus Do?” and “Choose Life.”
