FamilyNet to broadcast ‘Concert of Prayer’

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP)–A three-hour “Concert of Prayer” will be telecast live from 8-11 p.m. Eastern May 1 by FamilyNet, the broadcast television service of the Southern Baptist Radio and Television Commission.

The Concert of Prayer, part of the National Day of Prayer, will originate from The Church on the Way in Los Angeles. Chicago-based Moody Broadcasting Network and WCFC TV-38 will provide satellite signals to broadcasters nationwide. Last year 225 television stations, 3,000 cable systems, approximately 1,200 radio stations, Armed Forces Radio and Television and countless satellite dishes carried the prayer event. It was accessible to approximately 140 million homes by television.

Nationwide FamilyNet has more than 100 affiliates.

The concert of prayer is sponsored by the National Prayer Committee, a 20-year-old nonprofit corporation committed to mobilizing prayer within the church in the United States. Its members represent a coalition of respected Christian leaders.

Theme of the 1997 National Day of Prayer is “In God We Trust.” The May 1 broadcast will be the fourth of such national prayer meetings scheduled once a year until the year 2000. The prayer emphases of the broadcast are national spiritual revival and the advancement of Christ’s kingdom.

“We are pleased to be broadcasting this concert of prayer,” said Jack Johnson, president of the RTVC. “The mass media provide a wonderful opportunity for people nationwide to join together in praising God and praying for a much-needed spiritual revival in our country.”

Participants in the concert of prayer broadcast include T. Avery Willis of the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board, James and Shirley Dobson of Focus on the Family and numerous other Christian leaders.
