BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Next summer, kids at VBS will embark on an unforgettable adventure as they “Take Flight” and soar above the clouds to gain a new perspective on the vastness of God and His faithfulness. Lifeway Christian Resources’ 2027 Vacation Bible School (VBS) theme will help kids lift their eyes above the turbulence of life and see the One who never changes.
With “Take Flight,” kids will soar their way through VBS while learning about the God who never fails and who can be trusted no matter where life’s journey takes them. “Whether in the middle of clear skies or stormy weather, God is always in control – and He will carry us safely through,” said Melita Thomas, VBS specialist for Lifeway.
“God’s not shaken by the things that so easily shake us,” added Thomas. “It’s good to be reminded that even when we feel all alone or when things happen that are out of our control or when things don’t make sense, we can trust the One who is always with us, always faithful and always in control – no matter what.”
The biblical lessons in “Take Flight” flow from the motto “God is faithful – no matter what!” and the theme verse, “For the LORD is good, and his faithful love endures forever; his faithfulness, through all generations,” (Psalm 100:5).Each day of VBS, kids will make new discoveries about the incredible faithfulness of God. Through Bible stories, hands-on activities, games and crafts, kids will learn:
- When I feel like I am all alone, God is always with me.
- When bad things happen, God is still good.
- When I disobey God, He is faithful to forgive me.
- When I don’t understand, God is the One I can trust.
- When following God is hard, God is faithful to help me.
When it comes to decorations for the “Take Flight” theme, “the sky’s literally the limit,” said Thomas. “I can already envision church spaces decked out floor to ceiling in blue with giant fluffy white clouds and colorful hot air balloons, planes, gliders and blimps suspended in midair.”
From Above the Clouds Bible Study and Rip Cord Rec to High Flying Music, AirCrafts and Blue Sky Missions, Thomas said “Take Flight” is designed to allow kids to explore the goodness and faithfulness of God.
She is quick to remind church leaders that VBS is not just for kids. Many churches offer VBS for teenagers and adults in addition to what they offer for children.
“My hope is that every church would take time to evaluate the effectiveness of their VBS in reaching and discipling the whole family,” Thomas said. “And then seriously consider expanding their VBS strategy next summer to include not only children, but their big brothers and sisters, parents and even grandparents. Afterall, everyone needs to hear the good news of the gospel. And that’s what VBS is all about!”
