Narnia website at LifeWay to aid grasp of upcoming film

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” began intriguing readers well before the era of spectacular multimillion-dollar Hollywood special effects or sophisticated websites available to anyone with Internet access.

On Dec. 9, both longtime fans and people unfamiliar with C.S. Lewis’ famous fable will have the opportunity to see it recounted with world-class technology on giant screens around the world.

But LifeWay’s e-business group, meanwhile, is bringing aspects of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to smaller screens with its website dedicated to providing background on Lewis and insights into the multiple Christian allegories worked into his story.

“We believe providing conversation starters and other suggestions for discussing the film will help generate opportunities for one to share their faith with a friend or colleague,” said Gary McClure, LifeWay’s e-business marketing manager. “Simply put, LifeWay’s site is the Christian’s complement to Narnia.com.”

McClure said LifeWay.com/Narnia is a dynamic site that e-business plans to continue updating throughout the film’s run in theaters and eventual rental availability. The site also will serve as a resource for the subsequent Chronicles of Narnia films, which Disney already has announced as the biggest film project in its history.

LifeWay.com/Narnia features numerous resources, including information about the movie, books, music and Christian perspectives. McClure said he is especially excited by the free interactive Webinar, or online seminar, that helps viewers understand the Christian themes throughout the film.

As the potential Narnia movie frenzy ensues, LifeWay will offer resources through LifeWay Christian Stores, Broadman & Holman and LifeWay.com that will address the questions and other needs of average viewers as well as ministry leaders.

With 2004’s “The Passion of The Christ,” it became apparent that major Hollywood productions can have a profoundly Christian impact, McClure said. He expects The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to have the same effect.

“However, we anticipate greater potential to reach the unchurched through this film due to the indirect references to Christianity,” he noted.

For viewers already familiar with the Chronicles, LifeWay’s site offers a chance to see how filmmakers interpreted Narnian characters, which they intentionally depicted as closely to the books as possible.

McClure said the site also features background information, illustrations, the movie trailer and other components that would be helpful for people unfamiliar with the series to examine before seeing the movie.

In addition to these resources, the website also features Narnia giveaways and other activities.

“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a classic tale of ultimate friendship and sacrifice,” McClure said. “People who are introduced to it through the movie will likely be intrigued enough to pursue the other books in the Narnia series.

“LifeWay wants to be the trusted resource to help individuals become fully engaged from a Christian perspective,” he said.
