Porter joins Southern Seminary as public relations director


LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP)–David Porter will become the director of public relations at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Jan. 20. Porter comes to Southern Seminary from the Home Mission Board where he has served as associate director of marketing since 1992.

A native of Little Rock, Ark., Porter, 32, is a graduate of Baylor University. He has a broad background in marketing and communications, having experience not only with the Home Mission Board but also as marketing coordinator for Health South and manager of communications services for TCBY Systems. Porter also worked as a news writer for CNN and as a news reporter in Waco, Texas.

Porter received a 1985 United Press International Award for investigative reporting for researching, writing and producing a television news investigative series. In 1993 the Home Mission Board recognized him with the business division’s director’s Award, only the second time in seven years the award has been given.

Porter has been active in church and civic affairs. He was a host for the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon, a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and a cast member in the Atlanta Passion Play the last three years. He has been a member of First Baptist Church, Atlanta.
