Reception to honor Rankins


ORLANDO, Fla. (BP)–A reception honoring Jerry Rankin, retiring president of the International Mission Board, and his wife Bobbye will be held June 16 at First Baptist Church of Orlando in conjunction with the June 15-16 annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Rankin, 68, will retire July 31 after 17 years as IMB president.

The come-and-go reception will be from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in Faith Hall at First Baptist Church, 3000 S. John Young Pkwy. Shuttle bus service will be provided from the Orange County Convention Center to the church, with departures at 2, 2:30, 3 and 3:30 p.m. The bus will depart from the church to the convention center at 3, 3:30, 4 and 4:30. Jerry and Bobbye Rankin this year they are completing four decades of service together in the cause of Southern Baptist missions. Rankin felt the call to missions at the age of 8 and first served overseas as a college summer missionary in the Philippines in 1963. Beginning with their appointment as missionaries to Indonesia by the Foreign Mission Board (now IMB) in 1970, the Rankins worked overseas for 23 years before he became president in 1993.
