DALLAS (BP)–Thomas E. Miller Jr., managing director of the Southern Baptist Annuity Board’s public relations division since 1986, has announced he will take early retirement, effective Jan. 4, to be involved in church ministry.
Miller, 62, has worked under three of the agency’s presidents, Darold Morgan, Paul Powell and, now, O.S. Hawkins, during a period of 12-plus years that “leave me with a grand fulfillment.”
“The time seems right to close this phase of ministry … and return to a congregational ministry,” Miller stated.
Hawkins said Miller “has been an asset and encourager to me during this first year of ministry at the Annuity Board. I will personally miss him.”
Miller was associate editor of Virginia Baptists’ Religious Herald newsjournal from 1970-86. In previous church work in Virginia, he held various roles — as associate pastor, assistant pastor, minister of education and minister of music and youth activities — at churches in Arlington, Virginia Beach, Danville and Wytheville.
Miller said he and his wife, Cecile, plan to relocate in Virginia. They have two grown children.
