Baptist work in Vietnam hits close to home for Oklahoma pastor

PONCA CITY, Okla. (BP) -- As French McLemore rode through the streets of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, the last thing he expected to see was a sign for a Baptist church. Born in Ho Chi Minh City, or Saigon as it was once known, McLemore and his family lived there until two days before the fall of Saigon in 1975. McLemore's Vietnamese mother met his father, a full-blooded Cherokee Indian, while his father served in Vietnam as a civilian contractor.

Physical healing leads to new believers in Lesotho

LESOTHO (BP) -- IMB missionary Teresa Flora is praising God today for physical and spiritual transformation in the life of a family in Southern Africa. Mosilisi, an 11-year-old girl, lives in a high mountain village in Lesotho. She is Basotho, and her people group remains unreached. She lives with her widowed mother, two school age siblings and her twin baby brothers. Chinese government designates Lottie Moon’s church as historical site

PENGLAI, China (BP) -- The name, "Lottie Moon," is known by Southern Baptists far and wide. From the Woman's Missionary Union's Lottie Moon Christmas Offering to movies, books and documentaries detailing her life of service, Lottie Moon is often hailed as a "missionary hero." Lottie Moon's legacy will now be preserved beyond the Southern Baptist realm. Wulin Shenghui Church of Penglai in Shandong province, where Lottie Moon was a member during her time in Dengzhou, China, has been designated as a nationally protected historical and cultural site by The State Council of the People's Republic of China, the China Christian daily reported Nov.14.

Missionaries prepare to go; Oklahoma Baptists commit to sending more

OKLAHOMA CITY (BP) -- During a missionary Sending Celebration held in conjunction with their 2019 Annual Meeting, hundreds of Oklahoma Baptists from across the state witnessed how their giving enables the International Mission Board to send missionaries around the globe. The IMB appointed 29 missionaries, voted on and approved by IMB trustees, at Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City on Tuesday (Nov. 12). Paul Chitwood, IMB President, preached the message at the service, challenging and encouraging the missionaries and attendees to do the good work God has called them to.
