LAS VEGAS (BP) – Trustees for the North American Mission Board (NAMB) celebrated a milestone of more than 10,000 churches planted by Southern Baptists since 2010 as 745 church plants were added in 2022. They also saw first-hand the work of church planting and compassion ministry missionaries who are reaching people for Christ and meeting needs in Las Vegas, a city where life’s extremes are on display more openly than perhaps anywhere else in North America.

MIAMI (BP) – Against a backdrop of Miami’s vast diversity and vibrancy, trustees with the North American Mission Board (NAMB) met to celebrate church planters and other missionaries who are reaching a region whose residents are, in some areas, nearly 60 percent foreign born. CHICAGO—Southern Baptists gave a record $68.9 million to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering (AAEO) in 2022, breaking the giving record for a second year in a row. Giving to the offering has exceeded records in five of the last six years.
Ian lashes Georgia, South Carolina as Baptist response efforts gear up in Florida
As Floridians continued to grapple with the magnitude of Hurricane Ian’s devastating blow to the state, South Carolina and Georgia coastal residents braced for the storm’s final strike Friday afternoon (Sept. 30). At 11 a.m. Eastern, the National Hurricane Center said Ian’s sustained winds were 85 mph making it a Category 1 storm, still powerful enough to topple trees and cause damage to manmade structures. Flooding is also a concern.
As Ian bears down on Florida, Southern Baptists prepare response
LEESBURG, Fla. (BP) – Hurricane Ian continued to strengthen Wednesday morning (Sept. 28) as it approached Florida’s Gulf Coast, threatening to bring catastrophic winds, rains and storm surge as it cuts a devastating path through the state. In an update issued at 10 a.m. Eastern Wednesday, the National Hurricane Center said Ian’s sustained winds were at 155 mph, putting the storm just below the Category 5 threshold.
