Serve the ‘children of light,’ Mohler tells grads

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- God calls ministers of the Gospel to affirm the church and serve its members faithfully, R. Albert Mohler Jr. said in the commencement address to graduates of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. During commencement exercises on the seminary lawn, 297 master's and doctorate students received their degrees May 14. A week earlier, 107 Boyce College graduates received certificate, associate and bachelor's degrees in a commencement that marked the first time a child of a Southern Seminary president, Christopher Mohler, graduated from the institution.

Pizza delivery attack leads student to forgive

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- A Boyce College student who was stabbed and carjacked outside an emergency room while making a pizza delivery says he forgives his attacker. Josh Lewis, 19, has been employed at Spinelli's Pizzeria since last August and is a sophomore at Boyce, the undergraduate school of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. While delivering a pizza to the emergency room downtown at Norton Hospital on Sunday (May 3), he says a man confronted him outside his car and demanded his keys. When Lewis noticed the man had a knife, he dropped the keys and ran toward the hospital. But Lewis says the man caught up with him and stabbed him in the back before taking off with his black Jeep Cherokee and the pizza inside the car.

Mohler, at TGC Spanish conference, talks leadership

ORLANDO, Fla. (BP) -- Calling, covenant, courage, conviction and character are the marks of Christian leadership in the 21st century, R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, said in a message at the first-ever Spanish Pre-Conference for The Gospel Coalition National Conference in Orlando, Fla.

Southern Seminary launches ‘Global Campus’

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- Southern Baptist Theological Seminary has launched its new Global Campus for students serving in ministry around the world to complete a master of divinity degree through online and other distance learning options. "We do not merely want to have a program that allows people to access Southern Seminary online," President R. Albert Mohler Jr. noted in announcing the Global Campus in chapel Feb. 12 during the seminary's Great Commission Focus. "Our ambition is bolder than that -- it is to reach the nations."

‘Christmas mandate’ offered to fall SBTS graduates

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- The mission of seminary graduates is to announce the birth of Christ and the clear truth of salvation, president R. Albert Mohler Jr. told the fall 2014 graduates of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Southern Seminary conferred degrees upon 207 master's and doctoral students during the 214th commencement exercises in Alumni Memorial Chapel, Dec. 12, in Louisville, Ky.

John Perkins: Historic time for race relations

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- John M. Perkins, an 84-year-old evangelical pioneer in race relations, sees "a pivot place in history" among churches in racial reconciliation and economic justice. "This is the first generation of people who are beginning to understand that."
