ERLC resources for media now online at new website

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–A media-oriented website, www.erlcmedia.com, has been launched by the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, the public-policy arm of the Southern Baptist Convention.

“There is a healthy competition within the media industry to be first to break a story,” said ERLC President Richard Land, host of the weekday “For Faith & Family” half-hour syndicated broadcast and the Saturday “Richard Land Live!” three-hour program over the Salem Radio Network.

The competition “is evident at the local level as well as the national level as each journalist analyzes his assignment, searching for that unique angle that will set his report apart from those of his colleagues,” Land said.

And it is fueled in part “by the amount of time spent in research and newsgathering,” he said. “Our website, www.erlcmedia.com, is replete with ethical and moral information for the convenience of reporters in helping them meet their deadlines.”

Kerry Bural, the ERLC’s vice president for public relations, said, “This unique, media-specific site is the first of many steps planned to firmly establish the ERLC and Dr. Land as invaluable resources for the media on critical issues.

“We know how valuable time is to the media. Our goal is to expedite information dissemination by providing a content-rich and user-friendly environment.”

On the website is a complete list of press releases and statements to the media for 2002 and 2001 on a variety of ethical and moral issues. Of the 382 interviews Land granted from September 2001 to August 2002, a great number of the topics and quotes are captured within the archive of articles from Baptist Press, as well as his commentaries that originally appeared on www.beliefnet.com.

The first chapter of Land’s current book, “For Faith & Family: Changing America by Strengthening the Family” (Broadman & Holman, 2002) also can be downloaded in a PDF format. A biography and high-resolution color photo are available.

Information on the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission and the For Faith & Family broadcast ministry also can be found on the website.

“The information on www.erlcmedia.com is updated as quickly as possible when news is generated, so reporters will have fresh quotes and updated content to work with as they complete time-sensitive research,” Bural said.
