KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BP)–Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary trustees elected two new faculty members and approved the promotions of two others during their Oct. 20-21 meeting at the Kansas City, Mo., campus.
Robin Hadaway will join the faculty as associate professor of missions and Rodney Harrison as assistant professor of church planting and director of the seminary’s Nehemiah Center partnership with the Southern Baptist North American Mission Board.
“It is a fabulous development that the trustees of Midwestern have had the foresight to elect two wonderful servants of the Lord of the caliber of Drs. Harrison and Hadaway,” President Phil Roberts said. “They both are and will continue to be sources of delight to our students. I know these men and am thrilled that professors of their capabilities and commitment are joining our Midwestern team.”
Hadaway most recently was an International Mission Board regional leader for eastern South America. He also has been a missionary in Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay, a church planter in Sudan and a missionary evangelist in Tanzania. He was the first IMB worker to enter Sudan since 1983 and baptized the first believer of the Beja tribe in 1992. He started the first Baptist church in Sudan in 1994; now there are more than 100 congregations.
Hadaway holds a doctor of ministry degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, Calif.; a master of divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas; and a bachelor of arts degree from Memphis State University. Hadaway also has been a pastor in Arizona and California, a businessman in Memphis and a captain in the U.S. Air Force.
Harrison is one of seven church planting professors provided to SBC seminaries by the North American Mission Board. He most recently served as the new church extension associate for the California Southern Baptist Convention and has been a church planter in the Dakotas and Minnesota.
Harrison holds a doctor of ministry degree in missions administration from Golden Gate Seminary and has done post-doctoral studies at Oxford University and Southwestern Seminary. He also has a master of divinity degree and master’s in Christian education from Golden Gate, a master of divinity in biblical languages from Southwestern, a bachelor of arts in religion/healthcare administration from Dallas Baptist University and a diploma in nursing (R.N.) from Arrowhead College of Nursing.
Lee Hinson, who joined Midwestern’s faculty in 1999, and David Richards, who came to the seminary in 2000, received promotions. Hinson, director of Midwestern’s church music program, was promoted to associate professor of church music. Richards was promoted to assistant professor of Christian education and registrar. He also is the seminary’s director of extension programs.
