Committee on Nominations releases 2024 trustee, standing committee nominees

APEX, N.C. (BP) – The 2024 Committee on Nominations chaired by Matt Capps has released its list of nominees to fill vacancies on the boards and standing committees of the SBC. The nominations will be presented to messengers for approval at the 2024 SBC Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, June 11-12.

“Our team of 68 committee members has worked prayerfully and diligently over the last year to bring forth a slate of nominees that we believe will best serve our Convention of churches,” said Capps, pastor of Fairview Baptist Church.

“Above and beyond the criteria outlined in the Conventions Bylaws, we asked each nominee to disclose if they had any questions or hesitancies with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000). Even more, we inquired about the nominee’s church and its policies and procedures regarding protecting the vulnerable,” Capps said.

He said that committee was also mindful of “things like age, gender and ethnicity as well as our desire for our nominees to represent the growing diversity of churches in our convention.”

Sixty-nine new nominees were named in the initial report with a few vacancies yet to be filled by the committee. The final report will be printed in the 2024 Annual Meeting Tuesday Bulletin and brought as a slate for convention approval on Tuesday (June 11) morning.

The nominees include 11 women (17 percent) and 58 men (83 percent). The ethnic breakdown of the nominees includes 77 percent White/Anglo, 10 percent Asian, 4 percent Black, 3 percent Hispanic/Latino, and 1% Pakistani/Indian, with 4% opting not to share their ethnicity.

The nominees are:
