Spurgeon College names Logan Stutz athletic director

By Brett Fredenberg/MBTS

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Spurgeon College is pleased to announce the appointment of Logan Stutz as the new Athletic Director for the Spurgeon Knights. Stutz brings a deep commitment to Christ-centered leadership, extensive experience in professional athletics and coaching, and a clear vision for the continued growth and mission of Spurgeon Knights athletics.

“I am deeply grateful that the Lord sent Spurgeon College Athletics, Logan Stutz,” said President Jason Allen. “Logan was an ideal fit due to his athletic, coaching, and leadership experience. However, what was most important for us was his commitment to Christ and how he leads in a Christlike manner. I’m excited to see what the future holds for Spurgeon Athletics under Logan’s leadership.”

A Kansas City native, Stutz expressed particular gratitude for the opportunity to serve at Spurgeon College in his hometown. “My family and I are incredibly excited to be part of Spurgeon College,” Stutz said. “The sports world is relatively small, and the fact that an opportunity to serve in Christian leadership in our hometown at Spurgeon College is truly an amazing fit and a tremendous blessing.”

Stutz comes to Spurgeon with an accomplished background as both an athlete and coach. After attending Washburn University, he played professional basketball for eight years across Europe, Asia, and North America, competing in Germany, Austria, Sweden, Bulgaria, Japan, and Canada.

Following his playing career, Stutz transitioned into coaching, serving in programs across Canada, Syria, and Boston. His coaching career includes significant accomplishments, most notably in Canada, where he was named Most Valuable Player in 2015, Executive of the Year in 2019, Coach of the Year in 2025, and led his team to a National Championship in 2025.

Throughout his career, Stutz has emphasized the integration of faith and work – an emphasis that aligns squarely with Spurgeon College’s mission. “Your faith life has to be the main priority in everything you do,” Stutz said. “Once we realize we are competing for God’s glory, it puts everything into perspective. That perspective fuels excellence, humility, and a desire to bring out the best in others while serving the Lord.”

Dean of Spurgeon College, Sam Bierig, commented on Stutz’s appointment: “Coach Stutz brings a wealth of leadership and sports knowledge through his many stewardships over the years. From being a Hall of Fame student-athlete at Washburn to his professional career playing and then coaching from Germany to Boston and then Canada, Logan is the exact right combination of Christian conviction, championship-level competitiveness, and Kingdom-minded formation to lead Spurgeon College Athletics.”

As Athletic Director, Stutz will oversee the continued development of Spurgeon Knights athletics, guiding coaches and student-athletes toward excellence on the field and faithfulness off the field. His leadership philosophy is rooted in Christ-centered relationships, family, and service.
