Greg Davidson to be Pastors’ Conf. VP nominee

ST. LOUIS (BP) — Greg Davidson, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Vacaville, Calif., will be nominated for vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention Pastors’ Conference, according to an announcement from Alabama pastor Fred Wolfe.

Wolfe, pastor of Luke 4:18 Fellowship in Mobile, Ala., stated in a June 7 email to Baptist Press, “Pastor Greg Davidson is one of the finest personal witnesses I have ever known. I have been his pastor since he was in the 10th grade. He is a godly man who has done a wonderful job in every church he has pastored. Greg’s church in California has experienced 26 percent growth in the last two years and is sixth in Cooperative Program giving [among churches cooperating with the California Southern Baptist Convention]. I wholeheartedly recommend him to this position of leadership.”

Davidson’s 40-year ministry, with 12 years as a senior pastor, has included churches in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, California, Alabama and Georgia.

The Pastors’ Conference, which features messages from key leaders and inspirational music and worship, will be June 12-13 at America’s Center in St. Louis preceding the SBC’s June 14-15 annual meeting there.

Phoenix will be the site of next year’s Pastors’ Conference and SBC annual meeting.

Davidson’s denominational leadership has included service on the SBC Committee on Committees and as a lead teacher of FAITH Evangelism for LifeWay Christian Resources from 2003-09.

He has pastored Trinity in northern California since 2014, during which time the congregation has increased in worship attendance by 100, Wolfe reported. Data from the SBC’s Annual Church Profile indicated average worship attendance of 287 the year before Davidson’s arrival and 328 in 2014. No data was available for 2015.

Trinity reported giving 20 percent of its undesignated receipts to missions with 14 percent through CP, Southern Baptists’ unified channel of supporting missions and ministries in North America and across the globe.

ACP data confirmed the church’s CP giving. No report of total missions giving was available.

Davidson earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Mobile in Mobile, Ala., and a master of divinity from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Cordova, Tenn.

He and his wife Malone have a 13-year-old son.

Wolfe stated in a news release that Davidson “will bring a breath of fresh air to our Pastors’ Conference.”
