Iowa Baptists increase giving to CP missions, ministries of SBC


IOWA CITY, Iowa (BP)–Iowa Baptists adopted a 1 percent-of-budget increase in giving to Southern Baptist Cooperative Program missions and ministries during their third annual meeting Oct. 30-31 at All Nations Baptist Church, a multi-ethnic congregation in Iowa City.
The 1999 budget of $12,436,497, a 2.08 percent increase over the current year, includes an anticipated $458,210 in CP giving from the state’s 98 churches and missions, encompassing more than 12,000 members.
Elected as convention officers were Mike Carlson, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Indianola, president; Leo Endel, pastor of Southern Hills Baptist Church, Sioux City, first vice president; Mel Hooten, pastor of Grandview Heights Baptist Church, Grandview Heights, second vice president; and Terry Wilkinson, pastor of Harvest Baptist Church, Clive, recording secretary. Carlson was the convention’s first vice president the past year; Endel, the second vice president.
Among resolutions adopted at this year’s meeting, the convention’s 118 messengers committed to pray for associational search committees seeking associational missionaries/church starter strategists.
Next year’s annual meeting will be Oct. 29-30 at Grand Avenue Baptist Church, Ames.
