Morris Abernathy named as Union staff photographer

JACKSON, Tenn. (BP)–Morris Abernathy has been named staff photographer for Union University, effective July 30, replacing photojournalist Jim Veneman, who will teach photography full time and continue oversight of visual content for the university’s publications.

Abernathy serves as a freelance photographer for Baptist Press and has also provided coverage for the Dallas Cowboys, the Tennessee Titans, the Texas Rangers, last year’s California wildfires, the Oklahoma City bombing, 9/11 and five U.S. presidents.

He worked as corporate visual coordinator for LifeWay Christian Resources and as director of photography for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a co-founder for the annual Southwestern Photojournalism Conference in Fort Worth.

“We are excited that Morris will be joining our team,” said Kathie Chute, associate vice president for university relations and enrollment services. “He will be an asset to us as we continue to strive for excellence in our relationship with the media and in producing quality publications.”
