Weekly video series to encourage, help prepare Southern Baptists for annual meeting

Jonathan Howe, SBC Executive Committee vice president for Communications, cohosts a series of videos leading up to the 2021 SBC Annual Meeting at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville.

NASHVILLE (BP) – Southern Baptists attending the annual meeting in June will have a clearer picture of all the trip has to offer thanks to a weekly video series launching today.

“The Road to Nashville” is co-hosted by Jonathan Howe, SBC Executive Committee vice president for communications, and Amy Whitfield, SBC EC associate vice president for convention communications. Through the videos, messengers will receive more information on the gathering as well as amenities available not just at Nashville’s Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, home of the annual meeting June 13-16, but throughout the city.

“Our goal is to engage as many people as possible and mobilize them to join us in Nashville for the annual meeting,” Howe said. “The videos will cover everything you need to know, such as childcare while you attend the meeting, things to do around the city and hotel information.”

The videos – the first of their kind to preview an SBC annual meeting – will continue into June and include interviews with SBC leaders covering not only the annual meeting itself, but also the preceding Send Conference and missionary sending service. New videos will be released through SBC social media platforms as well as email and made available on TheRoadtoNashville.net.

“The best way to be engaged in our Convention is to be a messenger at the annual meeting,” Whitfield said. “We want to make it as simple as possible to prepare for the week so that when everyone shows up, they know what to expect. I hope it’s a helpful resource that answers questions, generates excitement and encourages participation.”

Howe, who also co-hosts the weekly podcast “SBC This Week” alongside Whitfield, said the series will help Southern Baptists better enjoy their stay at the annual meeting while completing the important work of the convention.

“Southern Baptists are at their best when they cooperate for the benefit of missions and sending the Gospel throughout the world,” he said. “We want to use this web series as a way to facilitate that cooperative spirit as much as possible.”
