      Traffic was stopped in both directions as Bo Russell, the American pastor of Koza Baptist Church in Okinawa City, Japan, was on his way to his office. “Hey, Pastor Bo!” he heard in broken English from the window of another car in the gridlock.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (BP)--For the best films of 2006, I am focusing on films that especially moved me with their spiritual or uplifting themes.

Former President Ford, 93, dead;
worked to heal nation after Watergate

WASHINGTON (BP)--Gerald R. Ford, whose legacy as the 38th president of the United States was in helping to bring healing in the wake of the Watergate crisis, died Dec. 26.
      Ford, 93, lived longer than any U.S. president. Ford’s widow, Betty, announced his death in a brief, written statement from their Rancho Mirage, Calif., home in which she said her husband’s "life was filled with love of God, his family and his country."
      Ford was best known for his attempt to restore confidence in government and the presidency when he ascended from vice president after the 1974 resignation of President Richard Nixon under the threat of impeachment. A month later, Ford pardoned Nixon, a move that produced an onslaught of criticism and may have cost him the 1976 election in a narrow loss to Democrat Jimmy Carter.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--An invaluable amount of manpower, experience, insight and maturity would be absent from volunteer missions in the United States and around the world if senior adults were removed from the equation, two mission board officials say.
      “Right now in Southern Baptist disaster relief and even much of volunteerism, senior adults are major players. We see them in virtually every venue we go to,” Jim Burton, senior director of partnership mobilization at the North American Mission Board, told Baptist Press. “In disaster relief, senior adults have embraced the task and are serving at all levels of leadership as well as service.”

Disaster relief volunteer urges service ‘no matter what age’

OCALA, Fla. (BP)--Judy Price told her husband she wasn’t going to travel to Louisiana if her disaster relief unit was called out in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It was too dangerous there, she said. But before she knew it, she was in Lake Charles, La., sleeping in a tent and bathing with a water hose.

Librarian guides underground worship movement in Africa

WEST AFRICA (BP)--It’s the stuff superheroes are made of.

FIRST-PERSON: Is ‘bashing’ sub-Christian? Not necessarily

EVANSTON, Ill. (BP)--Recently, my Apologetics in Contemporary Ministry class was turning through the premier issue of Salvo, published by the folks at Touchstone. Salvo is a hard-hitting publication, one designed to discomfit sub-Christian and anti-Christian ideologies arrayed against “the faith once for all delivered to the saints.”
