INDIANAPOLIS (BP)–When the Southern Baptist Convention holds its annual meeting in June, thousands of pastors and church leaders will arrive in Indianapolis with their families. The Preschool Care Subcommittee of the Local Arrangements Committee estimates care will be provided for 250 infants through kindergartners at the Indiana Convention Center, room 201, during the Pastors’ Conference and SBC annual meeting, June 13-16.
“Indianapolis is a family friendly city with our world-class Children’s Museum, Conner Prairie Pioneer Settlement, a living history museum, the Indianapolis Zoo, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the I-MAX 3D Theater,” said Annica Cook, one of the preschool care coordinators. “So we’re expecting an even larger number of children [to attend] than usual.”
In order to provide quality care and Bible teaching, the preschool care coordinators are in need of trained volunteers. “We are looking for people who love preschoolers, who want to help them learn about Jesus and who want to help them feel more at home while they visit our city,” Cook said.
Volunteers will care for the physical needs of the children, teach Bible stories and Bible truths, lead learning activities, sing songs and assist with art experiences. “Our schedule for the preschoolers is full of Bible learning experiences; we just need the staff of volunteers to come and lead the prepared activities,” Cook said.

“Many people don’t even know we offer preschool care until they get to the convention,” Cook said. “We accept walk-ins as long as we have space. But the easiest and surest way to get your child registered is to download the registration and medical release forms from SBC.net and mail them in.” Preschool registrations are still being accepted. “We view [preschool care], as an opportunity to minister to pastors, to lay leadership and to the youngest of future Southern Baptists,” Cook said.
