Pumpelly to lead TLW in Africa

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--Sharon Pumpelly, who with her husband Larry spent 25 years as an International Mission Board missionary in Uganda and Kenya, has been named lead consultant for True Love Waits International's expansion in Africa, LifeWay President Thom Rainer announced May 31.

Memorial celebration honors troops

Palau ministry to utilize Holman CSB

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--The Luis Palau Association has selected the Holman Christian Standard Bible's translation of the Gospel of John for its "Growing Faith" study book for new and recommitted Christians. The resource utilizing the Holman CSB will be launched at the Luis Palau Nashville CityFest outreach May 19-20 and be used in other LPA events throughout 2008 and beyond.

True Love Waits to expand anti-AIDS initiative in Africa

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--True Love Waits International will expand its abstinence-until-marriage message in six African countries, utilizing $950,000 in donor gifts to LifeWay Christian Resources' A Defining Moment capital campaign, LifeWay President Thom S. Rainer said April 11.       "Although HIV/AIDS is a concern worldwide, the most concentrated and high-risk area continues to be the continent of Africa, where the life expectancy in some countries has dropped from age 42 to as low as age 30," Rainer said. "We are very pleased to make this announcement today because we believe True Love Waits can be the answer for the AIDS epidemic on the entire continent."

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (BP)--About 180 ministry and community leaders attended LifeWay Ridgecrest Conference Center’s centennial luncheon March 6 to commemorate its 100th anniversary.
      Speakers recalled the many ways God had worked in people’s lives at Ridgecrest during the past century while voicing anticipation of things yet to come at the conference center located just outside Black Mountain, N.C., near Asheville in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
      Black Mountain Mayor Carl Bartlett, who attended Vacation Bible School at Ridgecrest in 1948, brought greetings on behalf of the city and read a proclamation recognizing Ridgecrest for 100 years of service. The governor of North Carolina, mayor of Asheville and Buncombe County commissioners also issued proclamations.
