NEW ORLEANS (BP) -- New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary announced a multiethnic initiative designed to diversify the seminary community and a tuition cap plan during its spring trustee meeting on April 12. NEW ORLEANS (BP) -- The faded pulpit at the front of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary's Leavell Chapel during the first week of March seemed out of place. Out of place unless one saw Billy Graham's signature scrawled on its top. The time-worn, battered pulpit is the one used by Graham during his 1954 New Orleans crusade. From Oct. 3-31, 1954, Graham preached the Gospel to crowds at Pelican Stadium and Tulane Stadium in the Crescent City. According to The Times-Picayune, 4,411 people committed their lives to Christ during the crusade. Leaders at NOBTS placed the pulpit in Leavell Chapel for campus revival week and preview weekend to honor the Gospel-focused legacy of Graham, who passed away Feb. 21.

NEW ORLEANS (BP) -- Trustees of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary joined with the rest of the seminary community in the celebration of the seminary's first 100 years during their fall meeting Oct. 2-4. Trustees voted last spring to reschedule the fall meeting so it could be held during the launch of the centennial celebration Oct. 3. Board members participated in Founders' Day chapel services led by Kelley and an evangelism-focused centennial kickoff on the evening of Oct. 3 featuring evangelist Junior Hill.

NEW ORLEANS (BP) -- Advocates from several perspectives on same-sex marriage and LGBT rights discussed the emotionally and politically charged issues, which often pit the church against the prevailing culture, during a forum at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. NEW ORLEANS (BP) -- For churches with worship bands, finding and keeping enough trained musicians to play all the instruments can be a struggle, said Darryl Ferrington, a music professor at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. But he's found the use of iPads and apps to be a way to fill in the gaps. Ferrington spent the past year studying the use of iPads as instruments for his sabbatical project. What he found should serve as an encouragement to churches that struggle to find musicians to lead corporate worship. ...

NEW ORLEANS (BP) -- New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary trustees approved three administrators for new roles and elected two faculty members during their spring meeting April 12. The trustees approved a $24.3 million budget. Several significant curriculum adjustments were approved including the renaming of the Division of Christian Education to Division of the Discipleship and Ministry Leadership and name changes for the seminary's counseling degrees.
