Iowa Baptists affirm CP commitment

DES MOINES, Iowa (BP) -- Iowa Baptists affirmed their continuing commitment to forward 50 percent of their anticipated Cooperative Program receipts to Southern Baptist Convention causes and pledged $100,000 to help those among the most vulnerable in the state. A total of 142 messengers from 57 churches from across Iowa met on Nov. 5 for the 21st annual meeting of the Baptist Convention of Iowa (BCI) at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Des Moines, Iowa. Pastor Darin Ulmer and his wife Sarah of Community Baptist Church of Marion provided worship music throughout the meeting.

Iowa Baptists note church plants, CP giving

DES MOINES, Iowa (BP) -- New church plants and an increase of more than 11 percent in Cooperative Program giving highlighted the 20th annual meeting of the Baptist Convention of Iowa in Des Moines. About 11 new church plants have ether launched or are holding preview services, BCI Executive Director Tim Lubinus said, noting firm plans for additional church plants in the Des Moines area in 2016.

Iowa Baptists approve 50/50 CP split

DES MOINES, Iowa (BP) -- During their Baptist Convention of Iowa annual meeting in Des Moines, messengers voted to increase the percentage of Cooperative Program funds forwarded to national Southern Baptist Convention causes from 20 percent in 2014 to 50 percent of all CP receipts in 2015. This represents an increase from $99,000 given to the SBC CP in 2014 to $300,000 in 2015.
