NAMB presidential search has ‘select list, not short list’

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP)--Trustees of the North American Mission Board approved 60 new missionaries, endorsed 38 Southern Baptist chaplains and heard a report from their presidential search committee during their Oct. 4 meeting at the board’s Atlanta-area offices.

DULUTH, Ga. (BP)--Roy Fish challenged 89 newly commissioned North American missionaries and chaplains to “pay the price of radical discipleship” during a commissioning service Oct 1 at First Baptist Church in Duluth, Ga.
      “I marvel at the depth of commitment, gifts and variety of ministries you are called to,” Fish told Southern Baptists’ newest missionaries and chaplains.
      “Tremendous potential walked across this stage this morning -– potential to shake a county, a large city or even a state or province,” Fish said.

RIDGECREST, N.C. (BP)--Southern Baptist giving to the 2006 Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions has been so generous that the offering has set a new record with three months still remaining in the giving period.
      Carlos Ferrer, interim chief operating officer for the North American Mission Board, announced the record giving at the opening session of the Woman’s Missionary Union national missions event Sept. 27 at the LifeWay Ridgecrest Conference Center near Asheville, N.C.

NAMB calls Roy Fish as interim president

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP)--Trustees of the Southern Baptist North American Mission Board have called seminary evangelism professor Roy J. Fish to serve as the agency’s interim president. Fish has accepted the call and will begin his part-time responsibilities next week at the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting.

JERSEY CITY, N.J.(BP)--Trustees of the North American Mission Board met May 2, their first meeting since the resignation of NAMB President Bob Reccord. The board approved 74 new missionaries and 63 SBC-endorsed chaplains, elected new officers and approved a resolution expressing appreciation for Reccord’s term of service.
      The mission board’s trustees also heard encouraging reports on NAMB’s ministries across the United States and Canada, and they were affirmed and challenged by SBC President Bobby Welch concerning their search for Reccord’s successor.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP)--Robert E. Reccord, president of the North American Mission Board, announced his resignation April 17 from the Southern Baptist entity he has led since its creation nine years ago.
      Speaking to nearly 200 NAMB staff members at NAMB’s Atlanta-area offices, Reccord said he made the decision, which was effective immediately, with “mixed emotions.”

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP)--Reggie Robbins is a North American Mission Board missionary who ministers to many of the homeless, drug-addicted and neglected people in Atlanta.
      Speaking in a March 30 chapel service at the mission board, Robbins said, “I’m honored to be here at NAMB, to speak to the other half of our team. And, I just want you to know that, like we say in the ‘hood, I got your back and you got mine. We are a team.”

NAMB president, trustee officer address, encourage employees

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP)--During a meeting with North American Mission Board employees March 24, NAMB president Robert E. (Bob) Reccord expressed appreciation for their “support, cooperation and prayers during some very, very tough days.”
