Responding to God’s call focus of BGAV

HAMPTON, Va. (BP) -- The Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) focused on how individuals and churches can respond to God's call during literal and figurative storms of life at its 194th annual meeting Nov. 13-15 in Hampton, Va. During evening worship Nov. 13 at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, BGAV Executive Director John Upton set the tone by interpreting the event's theme, "God's Call ... Now What?" Upton invited attendees to consider the courage and excitement of the first disciples in Matthew 4:18-22, who left everything they knew to follow Jesus.

BGAV focuses on ‘The New Way’

ROANOKE, Va. (BP) -- The Baptist General Association of Virginia heard a recounting of the association's history, approved a decreased budget and adopted a resolution denouncing "anti-Muslim rhetoric and bigotry" during its annual meeting Nov. 13-15 at Bonsack Baptist Church in Roanoke, Va. The BGAV's 193rd annual meeting featured 654 messengers and 293 guests representing 292 churches from across Virginia and beyond.

BGAV focuses on ‘Church Today, Church Tomorrow’

RICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- For the first time in more than 30 years, the Baptist General Association of Virginia met in a church location to hold its 192nd annual meeting. This year's attendance totaled 1,170, which consisted of 875 messengers and 295 guests from 360 churches, and together they gathered at Second Baptist Church, Richmond, the church where the 1,400-church organization first met in 1823.
