Panel takes stock of Southern Baptists’ unity

DALLAS (BP) -- Engaging the topic of unity within the Southern Baptist Convention, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary President Jason Allen moderated a panel discussion during the fourth annual For the Church Regional Conference June 12. More than 1,000 people filled the room to hear a spirited discussion by J.D. Greear, Thom Rainer, Mark Dever, H.B. Charles Jr., Vance Pitman, Noe Garcia and Micah Fries during the SBC annual meeting at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas.

MBTS grads urged to remain faithful in life, ministry

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BP) -- Jason Allen, president of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, challenged graduates during the school's 63rd commencement to "guard their personal holiness and doctrinal faithfulness." Midwestern Seminary's academic year concluded with much pomp and circumstance on May 4 as graduates, families and friends gathered together in the Daniel Lee Chapel for the school's commencement exercises–launching theologically-trained gospel ministers into service.

TRUSTEES: MBTS adds Köstenberger, renames college

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BP) -- Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary's trustees have elected Andreas J. Köstenberger to the fulltime faculty and announced the renaming/rebranding of Midwestern College, to now be known as Spurgeon College. Based upon a recommendation from their academic committee, trustees elected Köstenberger as research professor of New Testament and biblical theology during their April 9-10 meeting at the Kansas City, Mo., campus. Köstenberger also will serve as director of a forthcoming Center for Biblical Studies at Midwestern that will reflect his longtime scholarly vision of restoring biblical foundations for the family, the church and society.

Köstenberger examines biblical & systematic theology

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BP) -- New Testament scholar Andreas Köstenberger emphasized the importance of rightly studying biblical theology during Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary's annual Sizemore Lectures, March 13-14 at the Kansas City, Mo., campus. Köstenberger, who has served for more than 20 years as senior research professor of New Testament and biblical theology at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, focused his two-lecture series on the topic, "The Promise and Practice of Biblical Theology."

Jason Allen: Faith ‘more than behavior modification’

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BP) -- Jesus came "for more than behavior modification," Jason Allen noted upon the release of his book "Being a Christian" today (Feb. 1). "As we apply the Gospel to every area of our lives, the life of Christ pulsates through us," Allen, president of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, said in an interview. "We live a more joy-filled, satisfied life ... [when] we experience the joy and wholeness that only Christ can give."

Former Midwestern President Milton Ferguson dies at 89

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BP) -- Milton Ferguson, 89, the second president of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, died today (Dec. 21) in Kansas City, Mo., after a brief battle with cancer. Gospel’s power underscored by Allen to MBTS grads

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BP) -- With the spirit of the Christmas season as a backdrop, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary celebrated the culmination of 135 students' hard work and dedication in its 62nd commencement exercises Dec. 9. President Jason Allen delivered the keynote address as the graduates joined a new generation of pastors, missionaries and ministry leaders in Kingdom service. Allen challenged the graduates from Romans 1:16-17 to never take the Gospel for granted. After all, he said, the Gospel had been the focus of their studies for an extended period of time, and they would now employ it in their various ministry contexts.

TRUSTEES: MBTS celebrates Allen’s 5th anniversary

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BP) -- Amid a grand celebration of Jason Allen's fifth anniversary as Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary's president, trustees, friends and the seminary community gathered Oct. 16 to mark the occasion and praise God for Allen's accomplishments during that tenure. Additionally, trustees approved a campus renovation project and received news of record enrollment, faculty re-elections and promotions. Following a full day of trustee work sessions and committee meetings, the institution turned to commemorating the fifth anniversary of Allen, who officially took office on Oct. 15, 2012.

(BP) -- Examining and celebrating the unique stewardship God entrusts to those called into Christian ministry, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary held its annual For the Church National Conference, Sept. 25-26 at the Kansas City, Mo., campus. Keynote speakers Jason Allen, H.B. Charles Jr., Ray Ortlund Jr., Owen Strachan, Matt Carter, Jared Wilson and Matt Chandler preached messages centering on the conference's theme, "The Minister's Trust," while Aaron Ivey and Austin Stone Community Church's worship team from Austin, Texas, led attendees in praise and worship songs.

‘Portraits of a Pastor’ shares insight for Bapt. leaders

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BP) -- In "Portraits of a Pastor," based on the theme for Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary's 2016 For the Church Conference, Southern Baptist leaders from around the convention offer insight into nine essential roles of a church leader. Midwestern Seminary announced today (Sept. 5) that the book project Portraits of a Pastor, edited by Midwestern president Jason Allen, has been released by Moody Publishers.
