ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP)--Southern Baptists are closing in on a $2 million challenge matching grant made by Christian philanthropists Lynn and Foster Friess through the National Christian Foundation.

$10 million in loans to aid SBC churches hit by Katrina

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP)--The North American Mission Board will provide low-interest loans up to $100,000 to Southern Baptist churches damaged by Hurricane Katrina. NAMB is designating a total of $10 million to the disaster loan effort.

SBC disaster response ‘in transition’ as ministries mount

ALPHARTEEA, GA (BP)--Thirty-six Southern Baptist state conventions have now been activated to provide disaster relief services in the Gulf Coast, preparing and serving hot meals, and providing hot showers, laundry units and cleanup and recovery services. Through Sept. 15, more than 5,000 Southern Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers have served 2.2 million meals to victims of the hurricane.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP)--Southern Baptist churches and individuals may now register online at www.namb.net to assist Katrina victims through the Adopt a Church and Houses of Hope initiatives.
      Announced by North American Mission Board President Robert E. (Bob) Reccord over the Labor Day weekend, the initiatives are designed to help damaged Southern Baptist churches recover and offer assistance to people displaced by the hurricane that devastated parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP)--“What we are now calling ‘ground zero’ covers the continental United States, as the dispersion of Hurricane Katrina survivors is bringing this disaster to each of our communities,” said Jim Burton, director of volunteer mobilization at the North American Mission Board.
      “This is an extraordinary opportunity for Southern Baptists to rise to the occasion and model our passion for missions to the world.”
