2010: Haiti Earthquake Relief

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--A motion seeking the release of one of the 10 Baptist volunteers facing child trafficking charges in Haiti has been filed in court there through a Texas law organization focusing on religious liberty issues.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--An intercessory prayer list for the crisis in Haiti has been posted at the "In All Things ... Pray" website of the Southern Baptist Convention's Executive Committee, www.inallthingspray.net.       Roger S. Oldham, the Executive Committee's vice president for convention relations, cited the Florida Baptist Convention's call for a Day of Prayer for Haiti on Sunday, Feb. 14.       "Florida Baptists, working through long-term ministry partnerships in Haiti, and in consultation with the North American Mission Board's Disaster Relief ministry, have helped spearhead many of the relief efforts taking place in that country since the devastating earthquake last month ..."

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (BP)--Nearly a month after an earthquake ravaged the Port-au-Prince region of Haiti leaving 200,000 dead, stories of anguish and hope are rising from the rubble.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (BP)--A team of medical volunteers from Florida hasn't stopped working since arriving in Haiti on Feb. 3. There is just too much to do.       It has been nearly one month since the massive earthquake shook this impoverished nation. Some estimates have placed the death toll as high as 200,000. Following an initial assessment by Florida and Southern Baptist disaster relief representatives, Florida joined South Carolina, Kentucky and Mississippi in mobilizing emergency medical teams to help lead the Baptist response, following initial medical teams from Arkansas and North Carolina.

WASHINGTON (BP)--Dire circumstances facing 10 U.S. Baptists detained in Haiti continue to unfold sporadically in media reports, including news that the five men and five women were split up Feb. 5, with the men going to the national penitentiary and the women to a women's jail.
