ST. LOUIS (BP) -- North Carolina pastor J.D. Greear, one of three pastors to be nominated for Southern Baptist Convention president in June, responded to six questions Baptist Press posed to each candidate. Greear's nomination was announced March 2 by Jimmy Scroggins, pastor of Family Church in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Andrew Hebert looks to this year's SBC annual meeting as a time to "pray, work, strategize, listen and move forward together." For Hebert, a New Mexico pastor who chairs the SBC Committee on Order of Business, St. Louis was his first SBC annual meeting in 2002 when, as a 15-year-old, he met the late Adrian Rogers.

ST. LOUIS (BP) -- Dave Miller, pastor of Southern Hills Baptist Church in Sioux City, Iowa, will be nominated for president of the Southern Baptist Convention Pastors' Conference, according to an announcement by Indiana pastor Todd Benkert. Benkert, a pastor at Eastlake Baptist Church in Crown Point, Ind., told Baptist Press May 9 he wants "to nominate a small church guy and do a different kind of Pastors' Conference [next] year."

NASHVILLE (BP) -- Nominees to serve on the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee, the four denominational boards -- International Mission Board, North American Mission Board, LifeWay Christian Resources, and GuideStone Financial Resources -- the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, the six seminaries and the Committee on Order of Business have been selected by the 2016 SBC Committee on Nominations.

ST. LOUIS (BP) -- John Avant, pastor of First Baptist Concord in Knoxville, Tenn., will be nominated for president of the Southern Baptist Convention Pastors' Conference, according to an announcement by fellow Tennessee pastor Steve Gaines. Gaines, pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, Tenn., stated in an April 27 announcement to Baptist Press: "I have known John Avant for over 30 years. We were in the Ph.D. program together at Southwestern Seminary in the 1980s. We both served as pastors of Southern Baptist churches in Texas at that same time. He is a man of Christ-like character. He has experienced personal revival as well as revival in his churches. He is a devoted husband and father, a Gospel preacher, a loving pastor, a soul winner and a servant leader.

ST. LOUIS (BP) -- Illinois pastor Doug Munton will be nominated for first vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention, Missouri pastor John Marshall announced April 26. Munton has been pastor of the St. Louis-area First Baptist Church in O'Fallon, Ill., for 20-plus years. He is a former president of the Illinois Baptist State Association and a current member of the SBC Committee on Committees.

ST. LOUIS (BP) -- Southern Baptist Convention President Ronnie Floyd has named parliamentarians and tellers for the SBC 2016 Annual Meeting June 14–15 in St. Louis. Chief parliamentarian Barry McCarty, who began his service under the SBC presidency of Charles Stanley in 1986, will be honored for his longtime service to the SBC.
