10/27/97 ACTS, FamilyNet name affiliates of the year

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP)–ACTS, the cable programming service of the North American Mission Board, and FamilyNet, the television broadcast service of NAMB, have named two stations in Arkansas as affiliates of the year for 1997.
The ACTS (American Christian Television System) affiliate of the year is ACTS of Fort Smith.
The FamilyNet affiliate of the year is Family 45 of northwest Arkansas.
At ACTS of Fort Smith, “Fort Smith Alive” is the station’s flagship program and has been running for 10 years. Other programming includes a Hispanic Bible teaching program, a local worship service, special productions for holidays and the mayor’s prayer breakfast. ACTS of Fort Smith has received six first-place ACTS awards in the past.
The station is owned and operated by First Baptist Church, Fort Smith, and has been producing television programs since 1963. They became an ACTS affiliate in 1985.
“ACTS of Fort Smith strives to meet the spiritual, social and informational needs of the community,” said Stan Grubb, NAMB’s affiliate relations associate. “Their station is the best example of any group using local television to meet these needs.”
Family 45, which has been on the air almost three years, produces and airs local church, sports and health programs with the family and Christian programming from FamilyNet.
“Bryan Holland, Family 45’s owner and general manager, is very committed to having Christian programming on and distributing it to northwest Arkansas,” said Risa Hubbard, NAMB’s affiliate relations manager. “He has worked harder than any other affiliate to represent FamilyNet and Christian programming.”
ACTS is available on 1,500 cable systems throughout the United States via The Odyssey Channel and reaches a potential audience of 29 million households. ACTS began awarding affiliate stations for excellence in broadcasting in 1986.
FamilyNet is a 24-hour programming service distributed to more than 120 broadcast television stations to a potential audience of approximately 26 million homes. FamilyNet began distributing awards to affiliate stations in 1992.
