5/30/97 RTVC counseling inquiries up over same period in 1996


FORT WORTH, Texas (BP)–In the first four months of 1997, the SBC’s Radio and Television Commission counseling department has responded to 8,417 inquiries relating to spiritual decisions or spiritual issues. These inquiries were generated by RTVC radio and television programs and by the agency’s presence on the Internet.
Totals are up 372 over the same period last year.
Counselors have corresponded to 785 inquiries on the World Wide Web, 639 from the weekly television program “Invitation to Life,” 442 from the daily television program “Cope” and 328 from the weekly radio and television versions of “The Baptist Hour.”
“Invitation to Life,” meanwhile, generated 4,490 telephone calls and the radio and television versions of “The Baptist Hour” generated 1,173 calls.
Ronnie Floyd, pastor of First Baptist Church of Springdale, Ark., is the preacher for “Invitation to Life,” which originates from the church. Telephone inquiries are handled by volunteer counselors at the church.
Frank Pollard, pastor of First Baptist Church of Jackson, Miss., is preacher for both the radio and television versions of “The Baptist Hour.” Telephone calls are handled by volunteer counselors from four Fort Worth, Texas, churches — Birchman, Broadway, Rosen Heights and Southcliff.
Spiritual decisions for the first four months include salvation, 156; salvation inquiry, 69; and rededication, 105. Spiritual issues include assurance of salvation, 79; Christian growth, 799; and other (prayer, praise, information, etc.), 3,843.
