Bible Study: Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013

NASHVILLE (BP) — This weekly Bible study appears in Baptist Press in a partnership with LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention. Through its Leadership and Adult Publishing team, LifeWay publishes Sunday School curricula and additional resources for all age groups.

This week’s Bible study is adapted from the MasterWork curriculum.

Bible Passage: Luke 12:13-21

Discussion Question: How confident are you in the future of the U.S. and world economies?

Food for Thought:

This week’s MasterWork study will focus on one of our biggest fears — an uncertain financial future. So many people try to accumulate wealth as a defense against the fear of not having enough, fearful of living a life where one just barely gets by. The fear of losing the “stuff” we have drives us to do irrational things. During the economic collapse of 2008, a Connecticut man threatened to blow up a bank when he realized he’d lost $500,000 of his $2,000,000 portfolio. If there were no God, “stuff-trusting” would be the only response possible to an uncertain future. But there is a God, and God does not want His children to trust money.

“… Do not worry about your life … Don’t keep striving for what you should eat and what you should drink, and don’t be anxious.” (Luke 12:22,29, HCSB).
