Christian dramatists form new association

ATLANTA (BP)–Southern Baptists representing all disciplines of the dramatic arts voted Nov. 15 to form a professional organization and elected a committee to oversee its beginning.
The Christian Dramatists Association of Southern Baptists was voted into existence by Christian artists in Atlanta for the Sunday School Board-sponsored National Drama Festival, meeting at First Baptist Church, Atlanta, Nov. 14-16.
The organization — to represent drama, puppetry, clowning, mime, interpretive movement and other disciplines — is expected to encourage Christian dramatic artists. Among other purposes are to promote the dramatic arts in ministry and to provide information on new products, training events and other resources for dramatic artists.
Elected to develop bylaws, file appropriate organizational papers, solicit memberships and handle other initial matters were Buddy Lamb, drama consultant for the Georgia Baptist Convention and associate pastor, Glenn Anthony Baptist Church, Columbus; Ferrell Marr, minister of music and youth, First Baptist Church, Vidalia, La.; Christy Haines, drama consultant and National Drama Service editor for the Sunday School Board and motion picture costumer, Clovis, Calif.; Rose Crane, drama and worship consultant for the South Carolina Baptist Convention; Gail Blanton, freelance writer, Mauldin, S.C.; John Fulcher, coordinating committee for the North Carolina Drama Festival, Winston-Salem; Ev Robertson, drama and worship consultant for the Tennessee Baptist Convention; and Susan Fendley, attorney and clown ministry member, Central Baptist Church of Bearden, Knoxville, Tenn.
A newsletter, expected to be published by early February 1998, will be mailed to between 9,000 and 10,000 people on state Baptist convention drama mailing lists.
