NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Preparing for an imminent vote on a constitutional marriage amendment in the U.S. House of Representatives, pro-family leaders will join together Sunday, Sept. 19, for a rally broadcast nationwide on Christian radio and television stations.
The “Battle for Marriage III” rally will feature such pro-family leaders as James Dobson, Tony Perkins and Richard Land and is scheduled to be broadcast by SkyAngel and FamilyNet television, as well as American Family Radio, Salem Radio Network and the Bott Radio Network.
In addition, churches and individuals can sign up to receive the broadcast via satellite or webcast at www.wevotevalues.com. Rally officials are encouraging churches to set up a voter registration table — which is permitted by law — to coincide with the simulcast.
The rally, which will take place in First Baptist Church in Springdale, Ark., will be broadcast live from 7-9 p.m. Eastern time. For those in the western half of the country, it will be re-broadcast at 7 p.m. Mountain time, 6 p.m. Pacific.
The House of Representatives is expected to debate a constitutional marriage amendment during the final week of September, with a vote possibly on Sept. 29 or 30. The amendment has 130 sponsors but needs 290 votes — two-thirds of the House — to pass. If passed, it would then require passage by the Senate and ratification by three-quarters of the states.
The text of the House version of the amendment reads: “Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution or the constitution of any State, nor state or federal law, shall be construed to require that marital status or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon unmarried couples or groups.”
Scheduled rally speakers include Perkins, president of the Family Research Council; Dobson and Shirley Dobson of Focus on the Family; Land, president of the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission; Ken Hutcherson, pastor of Antioch Bible Church in Seattle; Ronnie Floyd, pastor of First Baptist in Springdale; David Barton, president of WallBuilders; and Ted Haggard, president of the National Association of Evangelicals.

This is the third such marriage simulcast this year.
