Columnist’s vote: Albert Pujols over Barry Bonds for MVP

ST. LOUIS (BP)–BPSports columnist Tim Ellsworth admits to being a Cardinals fan who unabashedly favors rookie Albert Pujols for this year’s MVP in the National League.

“Yes, Barry Bonds hit 73 home runs, drew a bajillion walks and had a slugging percentage that’s out of this world,” Ellsworth acknowledges. “But the MVP award has evolved into something given to a player whose team makes the playoffs. Despite Bonds’ heroics, the Giants fell short.”
