January simulcast to launch missions prayer initiative

RICHMOND, Va. (BP)–Churches are invited to join in a national “Lift Up Your Voice … A Call to Prayer” simulcast Jan. 27 and Jan. 29 to help launch a yearlong prayer initiative to connect churches with God’s work around the world.

Planners hope the 90-minute event, featuring author/speaker Beth Moore, will ignite a fire in the hearts of churches for the lost.

Joining Moore will be David Jeremiah, pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church in Southern California and host of the nationally syndicated “Turning Point” media ministry; Jerry Rankin, president of the International Mission Board; Carrie McDonnall, a former IMB worker who was critically injured in Iraq in 2004 and author of “Facing Terror”; and Travis Cottrell, vocalist and worship leader.

Moore, along with nearly 300 International Mission Board missionaries, wrote the recent best-selling book, “Voices of the Faithful.” She said she is convinced “we are living in one of the most strategic eras [of God’s] Kingdom. God is up to something huge, something global.”

“One day when we’re in His presence and He speaks of His activity in our generation, we don’t want to wonder how we could have missed it. God has a creative place for every single one of us to participate in His global agenda,” Moore said.

As unprecedented numbers of Christians thirst to be a part of what God is doing in the nations, Rankin said he believes the Lift Up Your Voice emphasis will fill a need for church leaders who have been looking for ways to encourage their congregations to pray.

“Lift Up Your Voice is a special invitation for churches to lift up hearts, minds and voices in prayer and devotion in support of missionaries and for the lost around the world,” Rankin said. “The devotional book, ‘Voices of the Faithful,’ and Lift Up Your Voice material are effective and practical tools for such an emphasis for prayer.

“This simulcast will be a call to prayer, but also a celebration of God’s providence and glory among the nations,” Rankin added.

By using tools such as Voices of the Faithful, a small-group facilitator’s guide, music CD and iWorship video, congregations can be reached on every level: strengthening personal relationships to Christ, uniting families in prayer for God’s work around the world, building deeper unity in churches, connecting people to a larger purpose, cultivating compassion for the world’s lost.
