New York Baptists encouraged to take risks in ministry

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (BP) — “When you respond to God’s call and trust Him by faith, you are going to feel overwhelmed and the task may even seem impossible to achieve,” said Hal Haller, pastor of Living Hope Church in Stamford, Conn., in his message at the Baptist Convention of New York’s annual meeting.

The meeting, held at Northside Church Sept. 22-23, focused on living out the truth of the gospel.

Haller’s message called guests, messengers and leaders to do great work for the Gospel.

“Some of you are in situations right now that seem overwhelming to you,” Haller said. “That’s exactly where God wants you to be because you have to depend on Him.”

Haller noted that significant ministry takes risk and firm faith.

“When we trust God completely with our lives, He will give us everything we need,” Haller said.

O.S. Hawkins, president and CEO of GuideStone Financial Resources, also spoke at the meeting focusing on Romans 8:28, 1 Kings 17:1-9 and Acts 13:36. Ronnie Floyd, president and CEO of the Southern Baptist Executive Committee, spoke on Hebrews 2:1-4.

The meeting reviewed the 2019 yearly budget which reported total Cooperative Program receipts of $825,847.60. The total forwarded to national CP amounted to 29.5 percent. The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering giving for 2019 totaled $214,791.60 and the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering totaled $135,873.56.

The 2020 budget anticipates $825,000 in CP receipts with a 30 percent allocation to national CP. The total budget for 2020 is anticipated to be $2,129,000.

Officers elected include president Alberto Camacho, pastor of The Rock Church in West Haverstraw, N.Y.; vice president Paul Flores, pastor of Iglesia Bautista Nazaret in West New York, N.J.; and recording secretaries Steve Sallis, member of Bellewood Baptist Church in North Syracuse, N.Y., and Matt Evans, pastor of New Life Baptist Church in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
