INDIANAPOLIS (BP) — Several additions and changes to the Sunday prayer service and prayer room at the upcoming annual meeting will reinforce its importance to the Southern Baptist Convention and its churches, the SBC’s national director of prayer Kie Bowman told Baptist Press.

Wellman believes Cooperation Group recommendations will strengthen SBC

ARLINGTON, Texas (BP) – To be on a Zoom call with Jared Wellman is to observe his love for professional basketball. In addition to family pictures, his workspaces are filled with photos, jerseys, basketballs and other collectibles connected to NBA legends.

SBC’s Cooperation Group releases recommendations

NASHVILLE (BP) — Four recommendations released today are designed to “prioritize and emphasize the authority of messengers in defining the boundaries of our cooperation while clarifying and refining our structure,” said a statement from the SBC’s Cooperation Group. The group was tasked at last summer’s annual meeting to study the issue of what makes a church “to be in friendly cooperation of faith and practice” with the Southern Baptist Convention.

Kentucky pastor Wesley Russell to be nominated for SBC second vice president

CINCINNATI (BP) — Michael Clary, pastor of Christ the King Church in Cincinnati, announced today (April 29) his intention to nominate Wesley Russell, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Pikeville, Ky., for second vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention at the annual meeting in June.

SBC President Bart Barber names Committee on Committees, appoints Virginia pastor Adam Blosser as chair

FARMERSVILLE, Texas (BP) – SBC President Bart Barber has announced his appointments to the 2024 Committee on Committees. Adam Blosser, pastor of Goshen Baptist Church in Spotsylvania, Va., will lead the committee as chair, and Elizabeth Graham from First Baptist Church, Concord, Tenn., will serve as vice chair.

Committee on Nominations releases 2024 trustee, standing committee nominees

APEX, N.C. (BP) – The 2024 Committee on Nominations chaired by Matt Capps has released its list of nominees to fill vacancies on the boards and standing committees of the SBC. The nominations will be presented to messengers for approval at the 2024 SBC Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, June 11-12.

Cooperation Group to release recommendations May 1

INDIANAPOLIS (BP) – The SBC’s Cooperation Group announced Friday (April 19) that it would release its recommendations May 1. In a release on its website, the group’s chairman, Texas pastor Jared Wellman, said the release date should allow for ample discussion of the recommendations before the 2024 SBC Annual Meeting.

Tennessee pastor Dan Spencer to be nominated for SBC president

SEYMOUR, Tenn. (BP) – Dan Spencer, senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Sevierville, Tenn., has become the sixth nominee for the presidency of the Southern Baptist Convention at the 2024 SBC Annual Meeting in Indianapolis.
