PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (BP)--After languishing in the Port-au-Prince port for more than a month, the first shipping container filled with Buckets of Hope was released by the Haitian government June 2. The container, owned by the Florida Baptist Convention, carried buckets of various necessities donated by Southern Baptists across the country.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (BP)--While traveling to a crusade in Bouce Carre, Haiti, the vehicle carrying Craig Culbreth broke down in a remote area.       Peering under the hood at a busted radiator hose, Culbreth and his traveling companions, De Louis Labranche and Michele Elius, who serve with the Confraternite Missionaire Baptiste d'Haiti convention (CMBH), were soon surrounded by 14 Haitians who appeared seemingly from nowhere to offer assistance.       As Culbreth, Florida Baptists' partnership missions director who was scheduled to preach during the crusade, prepared for the hour walk to Bouce Carre, one of the locals reached into the engine and pulled out a brand-new rubber hose from the bottom of the motor -- the exact size needed to repair the radiator.       With the car fixed, Culbreth and his fellow travelers arrived at the crusade within 30 minutes -- just as he was scheduled to begin speaking. At the conclusion, 143 people made professions of faith.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (BP)--A reported 40,127 Haitians have made professions of faith in Jesus Christ since a major earthquake hit the impoverished nation in January, according to pastors and directors of missions within the Confraternite Missionaire Baptiste d'Haiti (CMBH).       "Haiti is ripe for a spiritual movement from God," said Craig Culbreth, director of the Florida Baptist Convention's partnership missions department, which coordinates the work of the CMBH, upon his Feb. 22 return from Port-au-Prince.       During a Feb. 16-17 citywide holiday observance in Cap Haitien, Haiti's second largest city, Culbreth saw "thousands upon thousands filling the streets where people are seeking God and asking Him to spare them from what happened in Port-au-Prince. For me, it was a New Testament expression of what it looks like when the Spirit of God shows up. I have never seen anything like it."       The CMBH is the Florida Baptist Convention-funded partnership of nearly 900 Haitian Baptist churches throughout Haiti. Through the partnership the Florida convention employs seven indigenous missionaries in six regions.

HIALEAH, Fla. (BP)--La respuesta unida de los bautistas del sur al terremoto del 12 de enero en Haití se lanzará la próxima semana con cuatro equipos médicos "estratégicamente seleccionados," decidieron los líderes de la red de ayuda en desastres de los bautistas del sur el 26 de enero en Florida Urban Impact Center en Hialeah, Florida.       Los equipos de valoración que recién regresaron de la nación desolada por el terremoto junto con representantes de la Convención Bautista de Florida, la Junta de Misiones Norteamericanas, la Junta de Misiones Internacionales, la Respuesta Global Bautista y otros representantes de ayuda en desastres se enfocaron en los planes para responder a las necesidades urgentes a intermedio y largo plazo.       El grupo bregó con las configuraciones logísticas y la forma de enviar equipos misioneros y responder a las necesidades en un país donde el transporte y los equipos internos de ayuda son extremadamente difíciles de conseguir.
