ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP)–The former director of evangelism for the Baptist Convention of New York is among four new staff members at the North American Mission Board.
Ken Tan has been named as NAMB’s director of leadership enlistment and training, which is part of the Southern Baptist Convention agency’s church planting group. As director of leadership enlistment, Tan will direct the development and implementation of appropriate training for missionaries, churches, associations and state conventions toward successfully planting churches in every major language and ethnic group. He also will work with seminaries and colleges to identify potential church planters.
Prior to joining NAMB, Tan was director of evangelism for the Baptist Convention of New York for two years. From 1988-95, he was senior pastor of Bible Church International in New Jersey. Tan is a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kentucky with a master of divinity degree.
Joining NAMB as family evangelism associate for children is Charles “Skip” Arnhart, who had been minister of preschool and children at East Brent Baptist Church, Pensacola, Fla., since 1996. Arnhart also served on the staff of First Baptist Church, Millington, Tenn., from 1991-96. As a family evangelism associate, Arnhart will assist in the development and implementation of evangelistic strategies to be used by churches, associations and state conventions in children’s evangelism. He is a graduate of Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Tennessee with a master of divinity degree.
Also joining NAMB as family evangelism associate for women is Jaye Martin, minister to women at First Baptist Church, Houston, since 1989, where her primary responsibilities were leadership in evangelism and one-on-one discipleship of women. She speaks often on knowing and sharing Christ at various women’s ministries. As a family evangelism associate, Martin will assist in the development and implementation of evangelistic strategies to be used by churches, associations and state conventions in women’s evangelism. Martin is a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas.
N.S.R.K. Ravi has joined NAMB as an interfaith witness associate. Since 1989, he has been president for the Word for the Asians International Ministries, Inc., based in Memphis, Tenn. Word for the Asians provides strategies for reaching Asian communities in the United States. In 1991-92, Ravi was director of interfaith ministries for Shelby County Baptist Association in Memphis. As part of the NAMB interfaith witness team, he will develop and evaluate programs for Baptist understanding of and witness to members of world religions. Ravi is a Ph.D. graduate of Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary.
Phil Jones, previously NAMB’s general research manager, has accepted the position of director of the strategic planning support team. He will assist the vice president of the strategic planning and mobilization group in the development, implementation and evaluation of the agency’s strategy planning system. Jones has served with the agency 23 years. He is a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Susan McDaniel has accepted the position of editorial manager for NAMB. She has been with the agency since 1992 as an editor for the evangelism section and most recently as an editorial assistant for children’s missions education. McDaniel will now manage the editorial and design process of NAMB products. She is a graduate of Georgia State University where she received a bachelor of arts in English.
