Carson-Newman goes to 1-1 with 48-0 Guilford blowout


JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. (BP)–The Carson-Newman Eagles evened their record at 1-1 with a 48-0 win over the visiting Guilford Quakers at Burke-Tarr Stadium on Saturday.

The Eagle defense was impressive for the second week in a row. C-N limited the Quakers to only 115 yards of total offense. When third down situations came for Guilford, the Eagle defense rose to the occasion, limiting the visitors from Greensboro to no third down conversions in 11 attempts.

Carson-Newman’s offense was also clicking in the Guilford game. The Eagles ended the game with 451 total yards of offense, including 297 on the ground. Senior running back Antwon Oliver led the Eagles rushing attack with 68 yards on six carries.
