MILL VALLEY, Calif. (BP)–Trustees of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary met May 1-2, approving a new faculty member; naming a library collection in honor of William (Bill) O. Crews, the seminary’s chancellor; and establishing the Stringer Award for graduates of the seminary’s the Arizona campus.
Meeting at the GGBTS Northern California campus near San Francisco, trustees elected Jim Wilson as associate director of the doctor of ministry program for the Southern California campus in Brea and as associate director of theological field education.
Wilson has 24-plus years of experience as a pastor in California, New Mexico and Texas, serving most recently at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Seaside, Calif. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, and master of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees from Golden Gate.
A conference speaker on leadership topics, Wilson also is the author of nine books and numerous articles. The addition of Wilson will allow the seminary to expand its Spanish-language program, beginning with the doctor of ministry program.
“The addition of Jim Wilson to our faculty will add depth not only to the Southern California campus, but to our entire faculty system-wide,” GGBTS President Jeff Iorg said.
Trustees honored Crews, who served as president of the seminary for 18 years and as chancellor the past two years, by naming a leadership collection in the library in his honor. Iorg told trustees that the leadership collection “symbolizes and is dedicated to the vision Dr. Crews instilled in the seminary to shape effective leaders for the churches of the West.”
Trustees established the Dan and Harriet Stringer Award to be presented annually to students of the Arizona campus who show significant perseverance in attaining their seminary degree. An instrumental leader in establishing the seminary’s campus in Arizona in 1995 when leading the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention, Dan Stringer also served as executive director of the Pacific Northwest and Florida conventions.
“There are few men in my life who have been as influential as Dan Stringer,” Crews told trustees. “There is no person I know who is more deserving of this recognition.”
The fall trustee meeting will take place at the seminary’s Rocky Mountain campus, located near Denver.
Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary is a Cooperative Program ministry of the Southern Baptist Convention and operates five, fully-accredited campuses in Northern California, Southern California, the Pacific Northwest, Arizona and Colorado.
