NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Gifts to the Southern Baptist Convention’s Cooperative Program in July of $12,792,018.34 were 12.19 percent below the total for July 2000, according to a news release from the treasurer of the SBC, Morris H. Chapman.
For the fiscal year to date, October 2000 through July 2001, CP giving is 1.80 percent less than the same period a year ago, $146,014,641.04 compared to $148,696,892.03.
July’s $12,792,018.34 total was $1,776,562.27 below July 2000 gifts of $14,568,580.61 to support Southern Baptist CP missions and ministries globally and across North America.
In designated giving during July, the total of $7,668,529.83 was 11.86 percent below July 2000’s $8,700,117.97, or a difference of $1,031,588.14. For the fiscal year to date, designated giving remains 3.00 percent above last year’s pace, $161,076,127.85 as compared to $156,388,780.65, an increase of $4,687,347.20.
For the SBC Cooperative Program Allocation Budget, the year-to-date receipts are $6,017,653.54 above the budgeted $139,996,987.50, or 104.30 percent of budget. July’s receipts showed the $12,792,018.34 received as 91.37 percent of the budgeted amount of $13,999,698.75.
The SBC Cooperative Program total includes receipts from individuals, churches, state conventions and fellowships for distribution according to the 2000-2001 Cooperative Program Allocation Budget.
The Cooperative Program is Southern Baptists’ method of supporting missions and ministry efforts of state and regional conventions and the Southern Baptist Convention. Designated contributions include the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for international missions, the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions, Southern Baptist World Hunger Fund and other special gifts.
State and regional conventions retain a percentage of Cooperative Program contributions they receive from the churches to support work in their areas and send the remaining funds to the Executive Committee for national and international ministries. The percentage of distribution is at the discretion of each state or regional convention.
