LifeWay Christian Stores return to the Northwest

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–LifeWay Christian Stores is headed back to the Northwest. For the first time in nearly a decade, the Nashville-based retail chain will have stores in the region with the acquisition of three Seattle-area stores formerly owned by Evangel Stores.

The three LifeWay stores are located in Bellevue, Shoreline and Issaquah and are opening as LifeWay stores at the beginning of November. As part of the chain’s agreement with Evangel, LifeWay will continue to supervise operations of a store located on the campus of Overlake Christian Church in Redmond, Wash.

“We are delighted to be acquiring the Evangel Stores and expanding their regional ministry in the Northwest,” said Mark Scott, vice president of LifeWay Christian Stores, a division of LifeWay Christian Resources. “We look forward to serving people and churches by providing them the life-changing products and service that our stores offer.”

The stores bring the number of LifeWay retail locations to 122 nationwide in 23 states.

“We couldn’t think of anyone better to carry forward Evangel’s mission than LifeWay Christian Stores,” said Steve Adams with Evangel Stores. “Evangel, under different owners and names, dates back 50 years in this market and it is with great confidence we are passing our torch of ministry to LifeWay to continue to light the way. We pray the Lord’s continued blessing for the future of these stores.” LifeWay operated a store in Vancouver, Wash., beginning in the early 1950s but it was closed in 1994 due to financial struggles. Since that time, Scott said, LifeWay has diligently sought an opportunity to return.

The Vancouver store “was one of a number of stores we had to close that year to stabilize our financial health,” Scott recounted. “Since the day we closed Vancouver, we have worked to re-enter the Northwest in a way that would significantly bolster our Southern Baptist work, while at the same time be financially viable.”

Grand opening events, planned for Nov. 13-20, include visits from Veggie Tales’ duo Bob and Larry and Hermie the Caterpillar.
