NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Voddie Baucham may look like a linebacker, but he doesn’t play football. His game is all over the country — on stage from behind a podium. And his eyes are on the ultimate championship trophy — winning souls for Christ.
LifeWay Christian Resources recently signed the popular Houston-based evangelist and preacher to a three-book agreement along with rights to develop a multimedia small group Bible study complete with DVD video, print and music.
“Voddie Baucham seems to be emerging as a prophetic voice for today, proclaiming truth in our generation,” said David Hassell, project manager with the newly formed LifeWay Ventures Group. “Voddie’s messages and personality have such wide appeal. It’s rare for a speaker these days to so effectively connect with such a diverse demographic group. We feel that God is bringing some incredible opportunities for Voddie to make a major impact on our culture.”
Hassell and the LifeWay Ventures Group will oversee the development of Baucham’s resources along with other potential new ministry opportunities. LifeWay Ventures recently has acquired and re-launched the Serendipity House brand of small-group resources and is in partnership with Fellowship Church in Dallas to produce ministry resources for the contemporary church.
This is the first book for Baucham who is frequently compared to Francis Schaefer, a conservative Christian theologian, writer and speaker who was one of the first to promote the idea of a Christian worldview. Baucham’s first book, “The Ever Loving Truth,” will focus on the cost of being a serious Christian in a postmodern culture and the task of Christians to disciple young people for the challenge of serving Christ.
“Dr. Voddie Baucham has been referred to as an evangelist for intellectuals,” said Leonard Goss, editor in chief with Broadman & Holman, LifeWay’s retail publishing arm. “We are excited about working with him.”
Baucham holds a master of divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and a doctorate in ministry from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C. He has done additional doctoral studies at Oxford University in Oxford, England, and has served on various church staffs as minister of missions and minister of evangelism. He established Voddie Baucham Ministries in 1993 and has come into high demand for appearances at church revivals, major conferences, pastors’ events, college lectures and more.
Broadman & Holman will supervise the book projects, while LifeWay’s Church Resources Division will assist the development of the multimedia Bible study. Baucham’s first set of “The Ever Loving Truth” products is scheduled for release in the spring of 2004.
