New Bible study for collegians offered by Sunday School Board

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–A new Bible study resource written specifically for college students by campus ministers, church college ministers and students themselves will be released by the Southern Baptist Sunday School in the fall of 1998.
“Adult Life and Work Collegiate” and the accompanying teacher’s manual will debut in September as part of the Life and Work curriculum series published by the board’s Bible teaching-reaching division.
The 128-page quarterly student piece will include Bible studies for both class use and daily devotions at home; 18 pages of articles dealing with issues relevant to college life; and tie-ins, as appropriate, to “CrossSeekers,” a new discipleship initiative recently launched by the board’s national student ministry (NSM).
The teacher’s manual will include teaching posters, ministry ideas and teaching plans written especially for college students with options for Sunday school classes that include non-students. In addition, approximately 12 pages of articles will be developed to help teachers understand the unique needs of college students, develop and maintain relationships with them, and strengthen the college ministry in their local church.
“We recognize the college years are crucial to reaching young adults for Christ and helping those who are already believers stay grounded and mature in their faith,” Neal Cordle, an adult consultant in the board’s Bible teaching-reaching division, said. “Our churches let us know they needed a resource specifically targeted to college students, and we are happy to provide it.”
Previously, Bible study lessons for collegians were provided in monthly issues of Student magazine, however that resource ceased publication in May 1977.
Editing the “Adult Life and Work Collegiate” is Sharon Felton, a graduate of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Currently college and singles minister at Bluegrass Baptist Church, Hendersonville, Tenn., Felton previously served as a campus intern for the Baptist Student Union at Murray State University in Murray, Ky., and also was involved in youth and college ministry at First Baptist Church, Arlington, Texas.
Felton said collegiate training tracks will be offered to Bible study leaders who attend Sunday School Leadership Conferences June 12-15 and June 12-19 at Glorieta (N.M.) Baptist Conference Center and July 13-17 and 17-20 at Ridgecrest (N.C.) Baptist Conference Center.
